Landfill Equipment Operator I

Location: Georgetown, DE

DSWA is accepting applications to fill two (2) full time Landfill Equipment Operator positions for the Southern Solid Waste Management Center located in Georgetown. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

PURPOSE: This position is responsible for the operation of heavy equipment for various projects, and includes the placement, compacting and covering of solid waste. This position will require working some Saturdays and some holidays.

JOB DUTIES: Operates all applicable heavy equipment including, but not limited to, landfill compactors, bulldozers, motor graders, hydraulic excavators, backhoes, loaders, etc. • Performs routine inspection, preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment. • Performs waste screening on incoming loads. • Performs duties of an Operations Skilled Laborer as required. • Courteous interaction and effective communications with customers. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license and two (2) years heavy equipment operator experience. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class “B” is preferred. Must possess First Aid and CPR certification (Certification training provided by DSWA). Knowledge and experience to use, maintain, and perform routine repairs of equipment utilized. Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with this position. Knowledge of heavy equipment and procedures. Knowledge of environmental and industrial safety rules. Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to interact with the public and staff in a courteous manner. Skill in the operations of mobile equipment, which requires hand, foot and eye coordination. EOE
